African Bee Challenge 2020

In a world where honey demand keeps growing globally leading producers are suffering from Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) which is challenging the worlds ability to supply product.

Africa offers the greatest potential for growth in honey production, and with much of African's flora in areas that are "natural" and certifiably organic the potential for healthy, organic and natural honey can depend upon Africa. However, much of Africa remains in producing honey in traditional methods with hunter gathering, bark hives provides few true "beekeepers" in Africa but more honey collectors.  While these traditional methods have been around for centuries the question remains "what is the potential for production and income growth if the collectors switch to modern hives and techniques?"

20/20DC in cooperation with the private sector is working to bring change to the African honey industry with appropriate technology to provide modern hives, coordinated collection centers and most importantly a waiting purchase order for all honey produced through the ABC 2020 structure.

20/20DC has reached agreement with one of the world's leading honey processors who will buy the honey and provide technical support.  We are now in the process of finding NGOs, government agencies and other players in the supply chain across Africa to support the program.
